The Scientology Truth About Drugs Campaign

Drug users are somewhere on a road to less awareness and degradation. Addiction is near the end. Death is the last stop for those who cannot pull themselves out. Those who are fortunate enough to recover themselves, I say – well done!

I had a cousin who went down that drug road, went over the edge, and ended up in a psychiatric hospital and never recovered. I recall a once very bright teenage university student, who overnight turned into a violent multiple personality with a lost life. Trying to handle the drugs that sent her over the edge with more drugs, was like trying to douse an electrical fire with aviation fuel. The result was just more explosions.

The Church of Scientology, along with others, is very concerned with the state of the world, and where drugs are taking us. The leaders of tomorrow, those decision makers, are today's youth, many of whom are using drugs now. Over a third of Australians between 14 years old and middle age have used illicit drugs. Last year there were over 85,000 illicit drug related arrests.

Crime rates soar when people get onto drugs. A friend of mine was a superintendant of police of an Asian national capital, and he could not stop the rising crime rates, until he arrested and detained every drug user on his streets. Crime fell instantly. The only trouble was that he had to let the druggies go eventually, and the crime rates went back up. This policeman then came across the Scientology inspired drug rehabilitation system known as Narconon. He is now building the largest drug rehab facility in central Asia.

The Church of scientology is tackling the drug problem several ways. Rehab is one, and is for hard core users and addicts. Then there is detox, for those who have control of their lives but are now scarred by the use of drugs. The last prong into the problem is what has now become the largest promotional anti-drug non-government campaign on Earth, the Scientology sponsored Truth About Drugs Campaign.

This campaign is extraordinary. It uses aesthetics as the means of getting the message across. In the last 12 months alone 491 million have been reached with the anti drug messages, and 206 million have viewed the anti drug public service announcements.

These anti drug public service announcements do impinge. They cover alcohol, heroin, painkillers, marijuana, ecstasy, crack and many other drugs. Millions of booklets have also been distributed into drug risk areas. Education kits have been distributed to governments and like minded groups. None of these materials have any religious or Scientology teachings.

One could ask the purpose of all this. That is simple, there is such a thing as being responsible. That means being willing to be cause. Some people are high on the scale of causation and responsibility. Some people are lower down. Some are downright negative. But people who go into and stay in Scientology generally become responsible. That is why you find them in positions of trust and authority. What also comes with this is the ability of the individual to take responsibility for not just himself, his family and friends, but for the world too, and as far as this world goes, it is at risk with drugs. Our bodies were not designed for them. They overload easily. So Church of Scientology is doing something about it. There are others high on the scale of responsibility. We have no monopoly on it. In fact, it tends to go in hand with people who are spiritual or religious.
