The Effects of Opium

Author: Jeffrey Arcones

Opium is a narcotic formed from the latex released by lacerating the immature seed pods of opium poppies. It contains up to 12% morphine, an opiate alkaloid, which is most frequently processed chemically to produce heroin for the illegal drug trade. Opium dens may no longer exist they way they did during the Victorian era, but opium itself is still used to manufacture powerful, more addictive recreational drugs. Any activity that can lead to the using of unclean needles is highly dangerous and although other manners of taking this drug carry their own concerns, they will not have this particular danger.
